Ontario Poker Sit & Go Guide (2026)

Standard, turbo, and lottery SnGs across all 6 regulated rooms. Updated March 2026.

What Are Sit & Go Tournaments?

Sit & Go (SnG) tournaments start as soon as a fixed number of players register, usually 2 to 9. There's no scheduled start time. You sit down, the table fills, and you play. It's the format that bridges the gap between cash games and multi-table tournaments, offering the structure of tournament poker with the convenience of playing whenever you want.

Ontario's regulated poker rooms offer three main Sit & Go categories:

  • Standard Sit & Go: Traditional format with normal blind levels. Usually 6-max or 9-max.
  • Turbo/Hyper-Turbo: Faster blind increases that compress games into 10-20 minutes.
  • Lottery/Jackpot SnG: 3- or 4-player tournaments with randomized prize pools. GGPoker calls theirs Spin & Gold, 888poker calls theirs BLAST, PokerStars has Spins.

Lottery Sit & Go: The Most Popular Format

Lottery-style SnGs dominate Sit & Go traffic in Ontario. The appeal is obvious: short games with the chance of a massive payout. Here's how the top three compare.

GGPoker Spin & Gold

Three-player hyper-turbo with a random multiplier drawn before the first hand. Multipliers range from 2x up to 12,000x the buy-in. At the highest multiplier, a $5 buy-in plays for $60,000. The format is pure speed, often finishing in under 5 minutes, and the GGPoker software handles it smoothly with pre-action buttons and fast dealing.

PokerStars Spins

PokerStars' take on the lottery format. Three players, random multiplier, hyper-turbo structure. PokerStars Spins benefit from PokerStars' larger Ontario player pool, meaning shorter wait times to fill games, especially at micro and low stakes.

888poker BLAST

Four-player jackpot SnG with a countdown timer. When the timer expires, all remaining players go all-in each hand until one remains. The timer mechanic makes BLAST unique among Ontario's lottery SnG options and adds a distinct strategic dimension.

Sit & Go Strategy Tips for Ontario Players

Early Game

In standard SnGs, play tight early when blinds are small relative to stacks. There's no need to gamble when the reward-to-risk ratio is poor. In lottery SnGs, the hyper-turbo structure means you're in push-or-fold territory almost immediately.

Bubble Play

ICM (Independent Chip Model) pressure is the defining feature of SnG strategy. On the bubble, the jump from zero payout to min-cash is enormous in terms of equity. Tight players exploit this by applying pressure; loose players leak equity by calling too wide.

Heads-Up

SnGs often reach heads-up play with shallow stacks. Study push/fold charts for 10-20 big blind situations. This is where most of the edge comes from at low and mid stakes.

Lottery SnG Strategy

At low multipliers (2x-5x), the correct approach is aggressive preflop play with a wide shoving range. At high multipliers (100x+), ICM considerations become extreme: survival value spikes, and you should tighten significantly. Most players over-adjust for the big multiplier and play too passively at standard multipliers.

Best Sit & Go Room: GGPoker Ontario

GGPoker earns our top recommendation for Sit & Go players in Ontario. Spin & Gold offers the widest buy-in range and the highest maximum multiplier (12,000x). The software is fast, the lobby is well-organized, and GGPoker's overall traffic levels mean you won't wait long for games to fill. The Fish Buffet rakeback system also provides consistent returns for SnG grinders.
