The 2026 poker calendar's Canadian focus turns immediately from Las Vegas to Kahnawake, Quebec. Two days after the 2026 WSOP Main Event closed with Vancouver's Greg Mueller placing third and Montreal's Rami Hammoud sixth, giving Canada its largest single-year Main Event haul of US$5.5 million, the next headline event on Canadian territory opens on August 24 at Playground Poker Club. It is the first WSOP Super Circuit ever held anywhere in North America, and the largest guaranteed poker prize pool ever assembled in Canada.
Playground Poker, which sits on Kahnawake Mohawk Territory approximately 15 kilometres south of downtown Montreal, has hosted the WSOP Circuit five times previously and will host the WSOP Super Circuit for the first time in 2026. The Super Circuit tier is a heavier weight class than the WSOP Circuit that Playground has run before: broader prize pools, more rings, more high-roller events, and a title role on the international WSOP calendar rather than a satellite feeder. This year's event runs 17 days (August 24 through September 9), with 18 ring-awarding events across the schedule. Total guarantees exceed CA$14 million.
The Main Event: CA$5,000 for CA$10,000,000 Guaranteed
The tournament that anchors the festival is the CA$5,000 Main Event with a CA$10,000,000 guarantee. Three starting flights are scheduled for September 3, 4 and 5, with players advancing through Day 2 on September 6 and the final table on September 11. It is the largest guarantee ever attached to a Canadian live poker tournament by a significant margin, above the previous record (Playground's own 2022 CA$3-million-guaranteed Playground Main Event) by more than three times.
The CA$5,000 buy-in and CA$10-million guarantee together imply a required field of roughly 2,200 entries to make guarantee. Playground has confirmed unlimited re-entries per flight for players who bust the initial buy-in, which will inflate the effective entry count. For context: the 2026 WSOP Circuit Playground Deerfoot Main Event in October 2025 delivered 3,207 entries and a CA$4,015,120 prize pool at a CA$1,500 buy-in. The Super Circuit's CA$5,000 buy-in is materially higher and the guarantee is more than doubled; whether the field matches remains an open question that will be answered on the three flight days.

Ontario Qualifier Path: C$3 to Main Event Seat
The Super Circuit's most distinctive feature for our Ontario audience is the exclusive GGPoker Ontario qualification path. Alone among the online rooms serving Ontario, GGPoker Ontario holds the operator relationship with Playground Poker for the Super Circuit Main Event, and has structured a laddered satellite path that begins as low as C$3.

The path is exclusive to players registered on GGPoker Ontario and physically located in Ontario. As with all Ontario regulated online poker, players must be 19 and physically located in Ontario at the moment of registration and play. GGPoker Ontario's Ontario Poker Ambassador programme, which counts a small number of Ontario-based professional grinders, is running its own directive to satellite-qualify a targeted number of members to the Super Circuit Main Event. For Ontario players who prefer to buy in directly rather than through satellites, the CA$5,000 Main Event registration is open at Playground Poker (accepted in-person and via the Playground Poker website). Ontario players must travel to Kahnawake to play the Main Event live; there is no online-only participation option, and Ontario regulated online poker rooms do not participate directly in the Super Circuit's live event.
The Kahnawake Regulatory Context
Playground Poker Club operates under a licence issued by the Kahnawake Gaming Commission, one of the world's first tribal gaming commissions, established in 1996. The Kahnawake Gaming Commission's regulatory framework predates and operates alongside the provincial and federal frameworks that govern regulated poker in the rest of Quebec and Canada. Playground's tournaments are legal under Kahnawake's licensing framework and are open to residents of all Canadian provinces subject to age and location verification.
For Ontario players considering the Super Circuit, this means they are playing at a Kahnawake-licensed venue rather than an Ontario-regulated one. Standard Ontario iGaming Ontario, AGCO and OLG rules apply to online play from Ontario at regulated online rooms; they do not apply to live play at Playground. Playground Poker has hosted WSOP Circuit events five times previously. The largest recent field at a Playground Circuit Main Event was the 2026 WSOPC Playground Main Event, which delivered 3,207 entries at a CA$1,500 buy-in for a CA$4,015,120 prize pool, won by Travis MacMillan for CA$487,700. The Super Circuit's CA$5,000 buy-in is materially higher, but the CA$10-million guarantee is a factor of approximately 2.5 higher than the CA$4 million MacMillan field delivered. To make guarantee, the Super Circuit needs approximately 2,220 entries; this is achievable but requires strong satellite volume and a robust live-registration turnout across the three flight days.
The most likely outcome, per industry analysts and Pokerfuse's coverage, is a field between 2,300 and 2,700 entries, exceeding guarantee and delivering a prize pool in the CA$10.5-to-12.5 million range. First place at that field size would be approximately CA$1.4 million to CA$1.7 million, above Travis MacMillan's Deerfoot cash and above every Ontario-hosted major of the past decade.
Two Weekends of Ontario Player Focus
Ontario players will find two headline satellite windows on GGPoker Ontario before travel:
- Weekend of August 8-10: First major-Sunday satellite window with expanded seat guarantees. Ontario satellites run at the Sunday Final layer.
- Weekend of August 15-17: Peak-volume weekend before Main Event registration closes. Freeroll paths peak in volume this weekend.

Broader Political Context: The Alberta-Ontario Shared Liquidity Question
The Super Circuit Canada arrives at a moment of pending Canadian poker regulatory evolution. Alberta's regulated iGaming market opened on July 13, 2026 without a single peer-to-peer poker room going live; the province is on a three-month transition window that closes October 13. The Alberta-Ontario shared-liquidity Memorandum of Understanding, which we covered in our July 17 analysis, remains in preliminary technical discussion. The Ontario Court of Appeal's 2025 ruling that international pooling can be lawful under a "conducted and managed" test is now before the Supreme Court of Canada under SCC file 42141, with Alberta and Loto-Quebec filing motions to intervene.
The 2026 Super Circuit Canada at Kahnawake is not directly affected by the Ontario-Alberta MOU or the SCC case; it operates under the Kahnawake Gaming Commission's separate framework. But the size of the guarantee and the participation of GGPoker Ontario as the exclusive online qualifier partner does signal an operator investment in Canadian poker infrastructure that is likely intended to seed future Alberta-Ontario or interprovincial arrangements.
